Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the EU to Take Effect in 2018: Vietnam will Become a very Prominent Beauty Market valued at USD 2.2 billion in 2020

According to data from Trade Map of the International Trade Centre (ITC) and World Bank (WB), the imported cosmetics market in Vietnam was valued at almost USD 500 million in 2011 and has grown to more than USD 1.1 billion in 2016. This figure is forecasted to continue to double, to about USD 2.2 billion in 2020. The EU holds the second biggest market share in the export of cosmetics into Vietnam at 19%.

Topping the list of cosmetic products imported into Vietnam are perfumes (55%) and makeup products (21%). The remaining product lines, which include hair care, shaving creams and oils, accounted for 2-8%.

As a free-trade agreement (FTA) was signed between Vietnam and the EU in 2015 and is expected to take effect by early 2018, the EU-VN FTA will remove nearly all tariffs on trade and should provide significant new opportunities for companies on both sides, by increasing market access to goods and services.

Vietnam’s population is 40% female, with 20 million Vietnamese women aged 15 to 39. Today, Vietnamese women receive better education, have access to different sources to build their knowledge about a product and are updated on trends faster than ever. Vietnam has become one of the most prominent beauty markets for beauty players largely from Europe and especially now with the Free Trade Agreement.

Victory awaits those who can drive the market.
